For the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), TREDIS was used to assess the economic benefits and impacts of meeting Vermont’s highway, bridge and rail funding targets from 2012 to 2040. The project entailed assessing the likely private sector savings and other benefits associated with achieving and maintaining a targeted state of good repair for Vermont’s highways, bridges, and rail assets. The project considered the implications of investments in transportation system preservation for vehicle operating costs, freight and passenger travel times, safety and environmental factors as well as long-term residual value in the system. The project also considered the net jobs, output and GSP associated with Vermont’s use of its public rail lines including the expected impacts of upgrading its rail capacity.
