TREDIS - OverviewThe "Transportation Economic Development Impact System" (TREDIS) enables transportation planners and consultants to conduct economic development impact evaluation and benefit-cost analysis for transportation investments. It is the only system applicable for all modes -- highway, bus rail, aviation and marine projects, as well as multi-modal projects. It is also applicable for both freight and passenger transportation projects, and accounts for rural accessiblity as well as urban congestion factors. The system also distinguishes generative and distributive effects of transportation on regional economic growth. This is done using sophisticated economic geography tools that integrate GIS with the LEAP economic analysis system to account for threshold effects associated with changes in service areas, market access and travel times. As a web-based system, TREDIS provides the flexibility to be simultaneously used by multiple staff members, evaluating multiple projects, with study areas and time periods that can be redefined by users as needed. TREDIS is also designed so that the functions of its modules are transparent to users via a wide set of reports that show intermediate calculations as well as final results.
