Freight and Trade Module

The TREDIS Freight & Trade Module is an optional element that allows users to view current economic and freight patterns in terms of the volume of goods moving into and out of the study area (by mode, tonnage, value, industry and origin/destination) and examine implications for local income and employment. It also allows users to explore implications of alternative transportation scenarios on future freight shipping demand by product and mode. This can include any project, policy or program leading to a shift in transport charges (fees, tolls, fares or taxes), operating expenses (fuel costs, labor costs, etc.), productivity factors (speed and size/weight restrictions) or modal availability and performance (facility capacity, throughput, speed/delay).

Results. The Freight Module displays current economic flows and freight flows to and from the study area(s), and the potential impact of transportation projects, programs and policies on them. The report on Economic Flows (shown below) indicate the dollar value of products and services flowing into and out of a study area in terms of industry products, domestic trade and international trade. Users can separately select views of inflows, outflows and internal flows for individual years and trading partners (individual states or international).
