Kansas DOT sponsored a 2010 economic study of the proposed extension of Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer service to go from Oklahoma City to Newton, KS, with a possible continuation to Kansas City. The economic study built on an Amtrak analysis of potential ridership and costs, and calculated economic benefits including economic growth effects. The analysis relied to TREDIS to calculate economic impacts of startup construction, ongoing operations, interstate travel diversion, and changes in busines costs and visitor spending. Implications for state government revenue and cost were also calculated.
