Northeast CanAm Connections

"Northeast CanAm Connections: Integrating the Economy and Transportation" is a joint effort of four US states and five Canadian provinces to cooperate in a study of common challenges and opportunities spanning economic development and transportation. The participating agencies represent the US states of Maine, New York, New Hampshire and Vermont), as well as Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, PEI and Quebec,

A study team led by Wilbur Smith Associates conducted analysis to identify and assess opportunities to attract investment and to create jobs by promoting east-west trade corridors and improving multi-modal transportation access that can effectively increase competitiveness and capture new business investment for the region. The project team utilized a variety of transportation, trade and economic databases, along with risk analysis and forecasting tools.

As part of that effort, a US-Canada TREDIS application was developed to cover the four US states and five Canadian provinces. TREDIS was used to estimate the economic development and cost-benefit consequences of alternative scenarios for multi-model improvements affecting cross-border trade flows, port activities, inter-modal centers, and access changes.
