New Features in TREDIS

Enhanced Multi Run and Export Anaysis

Anaylizing multiple projects and exporting results have been updated to improve performance and combine the functionality.  Now running Multi Run Analysis will automatically generate a multi-project spreadsheet with the results for the selected projects available to review along with being able to review the analyses via the graphical web interface.

New Input Factors

Input adjustments have been added to TREDIS to improve the model accuracy:

  • Poor Pavement Adjustment - Inputs for assessing the impacts of road pavement conditions on travel.
  • Value of Time Adjustment - Adjust the default vaue of time for a project as a ratio compared to the normal value of time.
  • Societal Benefits and Costs - Include other societal benefits and costs to monitize otherwise non-monitized benefit and cost elements, such as the public health of bicycling.

Contingent Development

Enhanced Contingent Development Input Form

An updated input screen has been provided to ease the entering of Industry Employment (jobs) and Industry Output ($M) for situations where new contingent development is planned but not yet known to the economy.

 Improved User Interface

TREDIS continues to build on the User Interface improvements from TREDIS 5.0 with updated controls and more intuitive design. Modifications aim to reduce the learning curve for new users, increase interactive data exploration, and enhance performance. Initial features include:

  • A rebuilt Regions page: Users can now define the economy affected by their project using an interactive map as well as improved selection lists.
  • New Timing page selection controls: Interactive timelines make it easer to quickly set construction and operation periods.
  • Page load speed improvements: Significant reductions in the time to reload screens when toggling between input and output pages.

Latest Data

All customer’s contracts were updated this quarter with the latest economic and freight data based on IMPLAN 2017 and TREDIS Software’s vFreight commodity data and forecasts. TREDIS made these releases in record time after receiving the latest published data from IMPLAN, ensuring TREDIS users always have access to the most up-to-date information available on their regional economies.

Along with this data update, TREDIS staff completed one of the more comprehensive refreshes of mode-specific cost data in recent years. This update provided all approved factors from the December 2018 Federal Benefit-Cost Guidance as well as a wide range of updates to other factors drawn from sources around the industry. Not all factors are updated as frequently as costs related to the federal BCA guidance, since new data is not always available to TREDIS staff. Documentation of the TREDIS analysis “fixed factors” can be found in User Resources after accessing your TREDIS account.

EDR Group is updating industry-occupation relationships to represent a changing economy and will be introducing other workforce metrics into TREDPLAN products and exploring applications for new data in TREDIS. Updated industry-household relationships may lead to new reporting functionality later in the TREDIS development cycle.

Market Access

Key R&D initiatives for TREDIS include rebuilding the Market Access module including new econometric factors and an improved user interface. This initiative will give customers new ways to understand how transportation improvements can drive productivity in the regions through agglomeration and new opportunities for business to connect with workers and customers. Improvements are expected to especially focus on how dense urban metropolitan areas respond to improvements in accessibility.

New Capabilities

Additionally, during this development cycle, TREDIS staff expect to deploy new features to allow the capture of broader societal benefits, such as public health improvements from active transportation, and a more intuitive mechanism for estimating the economic impact of pavement preservation activities. TREDIS continues to lead the industry in offering flexible, fully multimodal analysis, with recent improvements to measurements of induced traffic benefits and accounting for the effects of switching modes.
