TREDIS 6: Our Platform for the Future

A major leap forward incorporating more detailed analysis of spatial patterns of transportation changes and allocating wider traveler benefits, accessibility benefits, equity, economic opportunity, and environmental sustainability benefits.

What is new?

Model Design
  • Supports detailed sub-county origin-destination (O-D) patterns from travel demand models.
  • Identifies the beneficiaries of transportation performance improvements.
  • Assigns benefits to users of improved facilities by distinguishing cost saving, job access, and business market benefits.
  • Assigns emissions and equity impacts based on location.
  • Generates a complete story about the nature of future benefits and growth opportunities, complemented by upgrades to the space-time dynamics of the forecasting model.

Accessibility
  • Redefines market access with broader features, enabling planners to recognize a more complete range of accessibility and connectivity benefits.
  • Includes measures on employment accessibility and connectivity, freight delivery, tourism markets, and connectivity to intermodal gateways.
  • Calculates impacts using new transportation network O-D features, and enables equity measures for changes in access.

Equity
  • Assesses equity impacts in terms of traveler benefits, access benefits, environmental, and economic impacts.
  • Relates equity measures to vulnerable and disadvantaged populations, areas of economic distress, and low-income groups.
  • Considers the role of equity in transportation investment by comparing regions and scenario impacts.

Equity
  • Incorporates continuing advancements in energy use and emission factors associated with new vehicle technologies and fuel sources, the valuation of damage costs, and shifts in travel patterns.
  • Using improved dynamic model, analyzes emerging technology improvements in emissions and future changes in travel.
  • Improves ability for planners to show long term sustainability benefits of implementing long-term plans.

Freight
  • Incorporates our continuing advances in modeling and displaying freight shipment patterns and logistics costs, and their future implications.
  • New visual reporting enhances planners' ability to show the benefits and costs of alternatives in state/region freight plans, and freight corridor studies.

Planning
  • Extensions will enable subcounty and even TAZ levels of analytic detail and spatial visualization for access, equity, sustainability, and resilience impacts. This is all part of the continuing evolution of TREDIS to become a robust decision support system for transportation planning and investments.
